Primal Instincts: Comfort

Comfort is one of five sculptures in my capstone series. Primal Instincts serves as a reminder to humans that animals experience the same range of emotions as us. Comfort draws from the loving instincts of albatrosses, giraffes, and striped hyenas.

Each sculpture is posable and completely hand-crafted.

The larger creature is named "Cwtch", the Welsh word for a hug that makes you feel safe and loved. The smaller is called "Hearth" as in the center of the home.

Little 'Hearth' spreads his wings in a playful stance.

'Cwtch' reaches to smell a flower with its long neck.

Comfort draws from the loving instincts of albatrosses, giraffes, and striped hyenas.
Primal Instincts: Aggression

"Aggression" is one of five sculptures in my capstone series. Aggression draws from the traits of leopard seals, cassowaries, and wolverines.

Hand-dyed and built silk fan acts as the tail. The design mimics aposematic coloration seen in nature, which wards off predators.

Created with silk, feathers, polymer clay, faux fur, lycra fabric, wire, and bamboo rods; the sculpture is posable and completely hand-crafted.

The bipedal design allows for fast running and a height advantage.

Named "Rue" as in regret for crossing paths with this creature.

Wolverines have some of the most intense claws and teeth in the animal kingdom.
